Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts is proud to be hosting the Minnesota Artists’ Association 80th Spring Juried Exhibition.
The Minnesota Artists’ Association (MAA) is the original art organization in Minnesota. In 1937 a heady group of artists decided to pool their energies and help one another. They formed a group where they could bring their problems and gain encouragement to go on. Sometimes they even needed food, but most importantly they could keep their spirits alive and communicate about a topic that was their life: ART.
At various times, they’ve operated our own gallery, organized satellite exhibitions around the state, and offered classes and demonstrations by well-known professional artists. MAA have two juried shows annually, one for members and one open to all artists. There are monthly meetings throughout the year where artists can socialize, take in demos and occasionally draw from live models. In the summertime, they offer an outdoor paint-out schedule. All events are publicized in a monthly newsletter.
It remains to this day, an all-inclusive organization which shows works in all media: sculpture, oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, pastel, and collage as well as drawing, graphic work and photography. Sprinkled throughout their membership rosters from years past is a veritable who’s who of art in Minnesota, many well-known names.
The exhibition will be on view from March 11 through April 8.
The opening reception and award ceremony will be held on Tuesday March 21 from 6 to 8 PM.
