On Friday, January 12 at 7:30 pm you are invited to join Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts to hear local authors Peter Geye and Marcie Rendon read selections from their writings. The event is free and open to the public.
Peter Geye is the author of three novels, Safe from the Sea, The Lighthouse Road, and, most recently, Wintering which won the 2017 Northeast Minnesota Book Award, the Midwest Booksellers Choice Award, and the Minnesota Book Award. He teaches at The Loft Literary Center. He is the father of three pretty great kids.
Marcie Rendon is an enrolled member of the White Earth Nation. Her debut novel, Murder on the Red River is currently available from Cinco Puntos Press. She is also the author of nonfiction children’s books Pow Wow Summer and Farmer’s Market: Families Working Together and four plays. The creative mind behind Raving Native Theater, she is also a recipient of the Loft’s 2017 Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship with poet Diego Vazquez.
The 2018 Reading Series is curated by writer Janna Knittel. She is a writer from the Pacific Northwest who now lives in Minnesota. She earned her MFA from the University of Minnesota and has published poems most recently in COLD MOUNTAIN REVIEW, NEAT MAGAZINE, and NICE CAGE, and on poets.org and Red Bird Chapbook’s Weekly Read. She was a finalist for the 2016 Rita Dove Poetry Award from the Center for Women Writers and a winner of the James Wright Award from the American Academy of Poets in 2013 and 2015. Her chapbook FISH & WILD LIFE is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press and she is working on a full-length poetry manuscript titled REAL WORK.
