Beth Mayer’s short story collection We Will Tell You Otherwise won the 2017 Hudson Prize with Black Lawrence Press and was a Midwest Independent Booksellers Association Connections Pick. Her stories have appeared in The Threepenny Review, The Sun Magazine, The Midway Review, and elsewhere. Beth’s work was recognized among “Other Distinguished Stories” by Best American Mystery Stories and has been anthologized in New Stories from the Midwest and American Fiction. She was a Loft Mentor Series Winner in Fiction, holds an MFA from Hamline University, and teaches English at Century College in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Beth lives south of the twin cities with her woodworking husband and impossibly faithful dog.
Sharon Chmielarz was born and raised in Mobridge, South Dakota, three miles from the Missouri River and Standing Rock reservation. She graduated from the University of MN and has since lived and worked in the Twin Cities. Her latest, twelfth, book of poetry is” The J Horoscope, 2019. A review just out from Kirkus Reviews called it “ … a superb collection.” Previous books have been finalists for the Independent Book Publishers Award, Midwest Book Awards, National Poetry Series, and the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Kirkus Reviews named her The Widow’s House one of the 100 Best Books of 2016. The Other Mozart, a biography of Nannerl Mozart in poetry, was made into an opera. Her poems have been nominated several times for a Pushcart Prize (latest, 2017, 2018, 2019), and featured on American Life in Poetry. Individual poems have been translated into French and Polish.
