Camps are suitable for kids ages 11-16. All camps are from 9am to 3pm. Different themes are offered for each week. Students may sign up for one or multiple weeks; projects won’t be repeated! Check out the different weeks and themes below:
June 15 – 19, 9am-3pm
In this camp, participants will learn about famous artists and the time period in which they lived and created. As we learn about these different time periods, the artists associated them, and their different styles of art, students will create works in the same style as famous artists. The camp will explore art movements like Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art, and participants will create using oil, acrylic, watercolors, and many other materials.
June 22 – 26
Public Art is created and/or displayed in the public eye for all people to enjoy and engage with a work of art. In this five-day camp, students will learn about a variety of art movements that are igniting the art community here in the Twin Cities as they explore mediums such as spray painting, chalk arts, and land art. Each day will be filled with creative exploration that challenges students to think outside the box and work together. The culmination of this camp will be a group installation that will be on view for visitors to the BLCA gallery.
July 13 – 17
Instead of staring at a screen all summer, wouldn’t it be more fun to be the star on one? In this five-day camp kids will learn and develop techniques in the theatrical creation process as we create our very own silent film. Participants will explore various art mediums as they learn how to create their own props including weapons, large creatures, shadow box puppets, and painted backdrops. Come ready to work together as we create a unique and fun silent film that we will view the last day of camp!
July 20 – 24
Art is all around us, including in seemingly everyday objects. Different art genres embrace these objects, highlighting the beauty in them. For example, many items that fall under the Folk-Art category are items that are not only decorative, but also have a utilitarian purpose or use. In this camp participants will get their fingers moving and messy as they explore mediums such as felting, basket weaving, clay creations, and tie dye. We will also learn about the Scandinavian art or Rosemaling as we create a beautiful wooden piece of art.
August 3 -7
Three-dimensional art does not always have to occupy physical space. Participants in this camp will learn how to create the illusion of dimension in drawings and paintings as they fine tune their skills as artists. We will create artworks out of charcoal and paper as well as work on figurative sculptures that will be viewable from all angles.
Cost:$195 non-members / $165 BLCA members
